The American Dream- or is it?

If this is the American Dream, I think we need a new dream.

Because somewhere along the way, the promise started feeling more like a punchline.

We were told to work hard.
Get the degree.
Build the career.
Buy the house.
Raise the family.
Do everything “right,” and eventually, life would make sense.

But now?

People are working full-time and still can’t afford groceries.
Rent costs more than a mortgage, but good luck getting approved for one.
Student loans are following people around like a second car payment.
Childcare costs more than some people make.
And saving money feels like a luxury reserved for people who already have it.

But sure.

Tell us again how the problem is iced coffee and avocado toast.

I’ll skip the $6 latte so I can afford one-third of an egg and stare at Zillow listings I’ll never qualify for.

We are tired.

Tired of being told to hustle harder by people who bought houses when they cost less than today’s used cars.

Tired of pretending burnout is ambition.

Tired of watching regular families do everything they’re supposed to do and still feel like they’re one bill away from falling apart.

This doesn’t feel like freedom.

It feels like survival dressed up in a motivational quote.

And no, most of us aren’t asking for mansions, yachts, or some picture-perfect life.

We just want the basics to feel basic again.

A safe home.
Food in the fridge.
A doctor’s appointment without panic.
A little money to save left after the bills.
A life where working hard actually gets you somewhere.

Because if this is the dream we were promised…

Someone wake me up from this nightmare.

This feels more like being exhausted, underpaid, overcharged, and told to be grateful.
