Single motherhood is tough, we all need support and some grace. See below some suggestions to make life easier mama.
- Stop feeling guilty for not giving your children more.
You don’t need to provide a perfect childhood, a bigger house, more money, or a two-parent home to raise happy children. Your kids need love, safety, connection, and a mom who shows up. They don’t have less because they have you… they have you. - Stop trying to prove you’re okay all the time.
You don’t have to convince everyone that you’re handling everything perfectly. Some days are hard. Asking for help, admitting you’re tired, or saying you’re struggling doesn’t make you weak… it makes you human. - Stop carrying your ex’s emotions.
You are responsible for your communication, your choices, and your children’s wellbeing. You are not responsible for managing someone else’s moods, reactions, or behaviour. - Stop waiting until you’re completely exhausted (or sick) to rest.
Rest isn’t something you earn once everything is done. The dishes can wait. The laundry can wait. A burnt-out mom doesn’t help anyone. Your wellbeing matters too. - Stop saying yes when you really mean no.
Every yes costs you time, energy, and capacity. Before committing to something, ask yourself… “Do I actually have the energy for this?” Protecting your peace is not selfish. - Stop making everything harder than it needs to be.
Use shortcuts. Repeat meals. Buy the easy dinner sometimes. Lower the standards where you can. Single motherhood is already a lot… you don’t need to prove you can do everything the hardest way. - Stop comparing your life to someone else’s.
You don’t see the full story behind anyone else’s life. Your family doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s to be loving, successful, and beautiful. - Stop apologising for having boundaries.
You don’t need a long explanation every time you say no. “That doesn’t work for me” is a complete sentence. Your peace is worth protecting. - Stop putting yourself last every single day.
You are not just a mom. You are a person with dreams, needs, passions, and a life of your own. Even small moments for yourself matter. - Stop waiting for life to become easier before you start living again.
Your life doesn’t have to be perfect before you can feel joy. Find little moments now… a sunset, a coffee, a walk, listening to music in the kitchen. Happiness doesn’t have to wait. - Stop believing you’re behind.
Your path looks different, but different doesn’t mean wrong. Look at everything you’ve survived, everything you’ve built, and the love you give every day. You’re doing better than you think.
Words of encouragement for the single mom.
