Having emotions is part of the human condition, we all experience it. The difference for people with mental health issues, and specifically Bipolar disorder, is that our senses and moods are very heightened and we feel things on such a more extreme level. For example I can hear a song or repeat a heartfelt story I heard and just start balling crying at the drop of a hat! Also I can tend to get offended easily and angry easier than most when provoked.
As we touched on earlier, mental illness and creativity can go hand in hand, and so can mental illness and extreme empathy. When you feel things deeper you tend to have a better understanding and a better insight into how someone else is feeling in that scenario.
There is an argument amongst professionals in this field that these illnesses are too hard to manage and therefore if a gene is identified eventually we should take measures as a scientific community to eradicate Bipolar disorder for example.
I beg to differ I think the positives of someone’s personality with Bipolar disorder far outweigh the struggles. It definitely takes time to adjust after being first diagnosed but once you own it, and feel good in your own skin again, and embrace this new version of you, you will see that the good outshines the bad when it comes to a Bipolar diagnosis.
