This weekend I went on a short “staycation” with one of my best friends to Jamaica Beach in Galveston, Texas. It was only about a one hour drive for us, without traffic, and we made it there in record time leaving early with my friend’s dog “Pedro” in tow.
We stayed at the Hyatt-Select which was dog friendly. Our room was pretty nice and wow our view was spectacular! The view made up for the fact that the room was really only so-so.
We had a lot of fun and it helped me to unwind and recharge for the rest of my time without my daughter while she is at her dad’s house. Summers since the divorce have been hard because I go long stretches without seeing her. I understand summer is adjusted this way to give the non-custodial parent some extra time, but it still feels unfair, especially the way my ex-husband manipulates the time to add on his weekends and get extra time.
The sand beneath my toes, the salty sea air, the sound of the crash of the waves and seagulls calling did wonders for my soul. Now while Galveston is not one of the most beautiful beaches, it mostly has brown water and brown sand as a result of being downstream from the Mississippi River, I still feel really thankful that we have the option to go to the beach so easily.
